Success in Korea

Sharpe Mixers currently exports its product to countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and New Zealand. We started exporting our mixers to Korea more than 20 years ago. Over the past few years, Sharpe Mixers has exported parts to Korea for maintenance and repairs of its large industrial mixers already in use there.

Sharpe Mixers is currently pursuing several projects for, and with, Korean companies. We are currently bidding on a multi-million dollar, in-country project for a Korean customer and working with several Korean engineering firms pursuing projects around the world. Members of our Sharpe Mixers’ team recently traveled to Korea to meet with these potential business partners.

Although the market for Korean in-country projects is small for Sharpe Mixers, Korean companies frequently export their services and technology to other countries. There is significant opportunity for Sharpe Mixers to partner with these companies and work with them to secure business around the world.

As a result of our success in Korea, we are proud to featured as a success story by US Korea Connect.
We are proud of our relationship with Korean business and look forward to many more years of success!

ISPE Boston Chapter Product Show

Jeff Marshall and John Christensen, Perrigo Inc.
ISPE Boston Chapter Product Show

October 3, 2012

Sharpe Mixers has been exhibiting at this event for over 10 years.

It is one of the biggest ISPE Product Shows in the country.

Since the show moved to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, it has grown even more.

There are more vendors and more attendees than any other event of its kind.

Sharpe Mixers exhibited at this event along with our local sales representatives, Perrigo Inc.
This year we saw a lot of attendees from Biogen IDEC, Abbott Bioresearch, Shire Corp, Amgen,DPS Biometics, Lonza Biologics, Organogenesis, Pfizer, Siemens, Xcellerex and from Genzyme.

The usual cast of consulting engineers and systems suppliers were in attendance as well.
Sharpe Mixers observed a lot of interest in our all stainless steel portable mixers and the PB-Series of small biopharm mixers. Our line of lift stands was also drawing a lot of attention.

Do you have an ISPE chapter in your area? Do they sponser a similar event? Sharpe Mixers would be happy to talk with you about exhibiting.

ISPE New Jersey Chapter

2012 Suppliers Showcase

Met-Life Stadium

Sept 12 2012

Sharpe Mixers exhibited at this ISPE chapter event along with Scott Process Equipment, our area sales representative.

This is the first year the exhibit has taken place at Met-Life Stadium, home of the Jets and Giants NFL football teams. The ISPE New Jersey chapter has taken the cue from the Boston and Delaware Valley Chapters, who have their shows at Gillette Stadium and Citizens Bank Park, respectively.

The move to Met Life stadium has definitely made this a better event for attendees and exhibitors.

There was very good attendance from a wide range of customers across the tri-state area.
Scott Friedland and Paul Sinecore of Scott Process Equipment.

We were able to visit with quite a few of our customers who stopped by to say hello. We also spoke with many new people that are interested in our products and services.

Do you have an ISPE chapter in your area? Do they sponsor a similar event?

Sharpe Mixers would be happy to talk to you about exhibiting.

CE Marked Portable Mixers

Sharpe Mixers recently had testing conducted to CE mark our Portable Mixer line. The testing results provide evidence that our Portable Mixers meet European safety requirements. With testing completed, we can now mark them with a CE stamp. This opens up our mixers for better marketing in Europe. More often than not a European customer is looking for this mark to be on their mixing equipment. The mark gives them peace of mind that our mixers will meet the European safety codes and have been tested to back it up.

Folding Impellers to the Rescue!

HYF218 Impeller with folding blades.
Sometimes the nozzle opening of a tank can be the limiting factor in determining the diameter of the impeller to be installed.  But does it have to be?  Not as far as Sharpe Mixers is concerned!

Sharpe has been designing folding impellers as a solution to such challenges for many years.  The example shown here is 72" dia. HYF218 impeller, designed to fit through a 16" nozzle opening.  In its static position, the blades will point downward.  Once the impeller begins to rotate, centrifugal force opens the blades to its full diameter.

Tight fit?  No problem!

Sharpe Mixers Featured on "How It's Made" Television Show

Sharpe Mixers has been a leader in the food and beverage industries for many, many years.  So it should be no surprise that our mixers were recently featured on the "How It's Made" TV show, for a segment on how mayo is made.

These agitators are used to prepare the “pre-blend” of oil, vinegar, eggs and spices prior to milling that creates the final “fluffy” product – mayonnaise.

Originally sold in 1997, our mixers worked so well that the customer placed an additional order in 2006 to expand their operation.

Sharpe Portable Mixers - The Best in the Industry!

Sharpe portable mixer with NEW quick-connect c-clamp!
Starting At Just $1,161!
Sharpe Mixers offers heavy-duty portable mixers to meet the toughest applications. Our direct drive drive portable mixers provide high-speed mixing for those jobs where greater shearing action is required and for smaller batch mixing. The high speed of the impellers (1750 rpm) create localized high-velocity eddies (high shear) necessary for many applications such as dispersing and dissolving dry powders into a solution.

Our gear drive portable mixers are the best choice for larger volume and higher-viscosity applications. The slower speed (350 rpm) provides the high torque necessary to mix higher viscosity fluids and the higher flow required in larger tanks. Large diameter HYF-218 impellers produce much more flow per horsepower than other mixers on the market.

Both mixers come with standard NEMA 56C frame motors, providing "off the shelf" availability and a wide range of motor options.

The alloy mixer housings are powder coated for maximum durability.

The shaft coupling is protected from corrosion, safely located inside the sealed housing. No exposed coupling means a safer mixer as well.

Oversize 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" diameter shafts are used for maximum stability & strong life.

Quick-mount c-clamp mounts are our newest addition to our portable mixer line. No tools necessary!

Spare parts are available for purchase 24/7 from our online store at http://www.sharpemixerstore.com/!

Finally, all standard mixer components are stocked on our shelves and available for immediate shipment!

The Advantage of Pneumatic (Air) Motors

Pneumatic motors, or air motors as they are commonly referred to, are motors that work off compressed air.  They convert the compressed air to mechanical work through rotary motion.

These motors offer several advantages over electric motors; they offer a greater power density, offer variable speed without a speed controller, generate less heat, and can be used in mor voatile atmospheres since they do not require electric power.

Operating much like a windmill, pneuamatic motors use compressed air to exert pressure against its vanes, causing the rotor to turn at high speed.  Rotational speeds can vary between 100 and 2,000 rpm, depending on the air pressure.

Though available in dry-running designs, most air motors require a small amount of lubrication.  This is most commonly provided with a filter, regulator and lubricator set up in which the filter cleans the air, the lubricator introduces a small amount of oil to the air line, and the regulator is used to adjust the air pressure and control the motor speed.

Sharpe Mixers stocks a large inventory of air 1.5 hp air motors and FLR (filter, regulator, lubricator) assemblies for immediate shipment.  You may purchase these 24/7 from our online store!

All Stainless bench top LAB SCALE Mixer.

During a sales call with a large generic drug manufacturer I was reviewing our portable mixer line and mixers 101 brochure with the manufacturing personnel.

They had been very impressed with Sharpe Mixer's SSG-100 all stainless mixers and Air lift stands (ALS-36 with quick pin locks) we supplied on a recent project. They asked me if we could supply a lab size unit similar to the full scale model with a stainless air motor.

They had searched many different companies but no one made a SS air motor lab mixer that they could find.

This is the unit we designed and built to meet the spec. The customer is very happy with it and is planning on buying multiples.

The SSLM unit features an All Stainless lube free air motor, shaft, 4” HYF218 impeller, adjustable bracket and support stand. Price for the assembly is $3950.00. Lead time is ~4-6 weeks ARO.

Sharpe Mixers Stand the Test of Time!

Other titles that came to mind for this post were "Never judge a book by its cover" or "It's what's under the hood that counts".

Let me explain.

Recently a customer returned a couple of mixers to us for a "tune-up".  The mixers still worked, the customer just wanted us to give them a quick evaluation.

When the mixers arrived on our receiving dock, we were blown away!  These mixers were shipped back in 1987 and have led a hard life.  They are used in a picking process for a galvanizing company, and operate in an extremely caustic and corrosive environment.

The pickling process involves using a dilute solution of hot sulfuric acid to remove rust and mill scale to provide a clean metallic surface.  Next, the item goes to the fluxxing tank, where it is dipped in ammonium chloride.  Finally, the galvanizing process involves dipping the product into molten zinc, which is heated at 820 to 850 F.  These processes create quite a corrosive environment!

So after 25 years of service in this harsh environment, these mixer drives were returned to us for refurbishing, with an emphasis of keeping costs down for our customer who was operating under a tight budget.

What did our evaluation find?  The shaft bearing and seal on each unit, which are subjected to the corrosive vapors directly above the pickling tank, were in need of replacement - that was it!  These mixers still have their original motors and gearboxes (including original gearing and bearings), and will continue to use these original components as they are returned to service.

This customer will only purchase Sharpe mixers due to our proven track record in their facility.

Pacific Northwest Food Processors Exhibit - Jan 16th - 18th, 2012

Michael Bauman and David Bowlin of EPS.
This exhibition is always a good show for Sharpe Mixers, and this year was no different.

Despite some nasty weather we saw a wide variety of customers, new and existing.

Some are food processors, mostly in the fruit and vegetable processing industry.

Others are OEM accounts that supply Sharpe Mixers with their process, water and wastewater treatment systems.

The all stainless steel portable mixer we displayed at this year’s show attracted a good deal of attention.

Everyone recognized the advantage of the new quick-clamp assembly.

EPS provides a wide variety of products to the food processing industry including mixing and agitation, filtration, cooling and heating, water & waste treatment.

Michael Bauman, pictured above, is a new salesman for EPS, coming from the food process industry in the Yakima Valley, where he will be focusing his efforts.
